A.G.A Group Seasonal News (Winter 2008) Print E-mail
The Winter months are here once again and whilst many consider this a quiet period in the management of the aquatic environment the A.G.A Group has been busy working on a number of fisheries and restoration projects.

The Winter months should provide an ideal time for vital work to be carried out as fish are more docile and transportation and handling proves less stressful than in the warmer months. This allows for our specialist team to get to work before the spring, carrying out health checks and moving fish where they need to go.

Aside from the work carried out for private clients the A.G.A Group works on numerous projects for Local Authorities, conservation bodies and regulators such as the Environment Agency to restore and enhance lakes and ponds for anglers and the general public to enjoy.

January 2008 has seen the start of some ambitious projects within inner cities aimed at improving existing ponds and lakes which are in need of restoration. In the year that sees Liverpool become the European City of Culture the A.G.A Group is proud to be part of the regeneration process and the work undertaken at Sefton Park ‘the Hyde Park of the North’ will be a valuable contribution to the overall regeneration of the area.

At the A.G.A Group sustainability is always at the heart of the work we undertake, by using bioengineering solutions to solve complex problems the organisation promotes biodiversity and ecological improvements to aquatic environments throughout the UK.

Cannon Hill Common sees new life Print E-mail
The A.G.A Group has recently started work on an ambitious new restoration project at Cannon Hill Common jointly funded by the Local Borough Council and The Environment Agency. The project, expected to last five weeks, will see the complete restoration of a once beautiful pond. Unfortunately the pond had been in decline for a number of years now and due to heavy siltation and poor tree management both water quality and fish health were suffering. During the warmer summer months when dissolved oxygen levels were low the pond also experienced nuisance algae problems.

Sefton Park, one of Liverpool’s largest parks and once described as the Hyde Park of the north for its wide tree lined avenues received approval in 2005 for a major renovation project. The project involves the refurbishment and improvement of many of the parks features including the numerous water features. The £5 million lottery funded project started in September 2007 and the A.G.A Group was brought on board as contractors to make the required improvements to the aquatic environment at the park.
